On the phone, in the tree

Aegion’s spec says 0.2.3. The keyboard project says 1.4 (version code 5), and that build is installed on the Tank. The More key holds copy, paste, delete-word, emoji, GIFs, photos, and saved emails. Emoji are bundled, with recent ones first and skin tone on a held hand or person. Photos use the system gallery and a file provider. If the app behind the keyboard cannot take an image, the picture is copied and the panel says so. GIFs are two columns of silent previews from keyboard-media/. An empty catalog or a dead network is one line of text, not a broken keyboard. Letters come back as soon as you send something or press abc. Addresses stay on the phone. Password fields are not saved.

Sentence capitals, double-space to a period, drag-the-space to move the caret, hold-for-accents, a number row, on-device suggestions, and swipe-down on backspace to delete a word were built for both keyboards before the media panel. Password fields stay lowercase and get no suggestions. The main marks, question and exclamation included, sit on the row above space.

On the laptop keyboard, in the tree

The window remembers a sane size and will not save a 0,0 position when it closes. The close button sits outside the drag handle, because the handle was eating the click. Space and backspace no longer grab the pointer. A missed release clears itself after a little over a second and does not type. Emoji on this side are a title-bar popup of twelve characters, pasted in. Mail edits a local address list. Mic dictates through Vosk. The window is started at login and kept in front of the GNOME search by aegis-keyboard-above@aegis.

Learning, measured once

These numbers were read from the running backend on the evening of 4 October, after the phone proxy was given to the login service. They are a snapshot for this page, not a live feed on chief.

CountMeaning
355 notedSubjects the learner has seen in pages and answers.
300 topicsSubjects it treated as real enough to follow.
58 confirmedFacts kept because the Wikipedia article and Wikidata agreed.
7 pendingThe article did not state the Wikidata value. Not kept as fact.
7 contradictedThe two sources disagreed. Dropped.
33 waitingTopics still in the queue that evening.
49 groundedSubjects tied to a Wikidata item.
72 questionsChecked questions prepared from properties those items have.

Ollama’s free models on disk are qwen2.5:1.5b and llama3.2:1b. Curious does not train them. It writes the library. The model is used only when you ask and Local AI is allowed.

Browser and boot

Firefox policy /etc/firefox/policies/policies.json blocks popups and installs uBlock Origin. Chrome is absent. Enabled at login: aegis-proxy, aegis-backend, kokoro-server, the keyboard autostart entry, and the search-layer extension. Ollama is enabled at boot. The Aegion window is not.

Installers

Direct connections from this Wi-Fi to the Ubuntu and Node archives time out. The phone proxy answers. Apt is configured to ask a script for the proxy on every update, so sudo apt-get update works in a terminal that was opened before the variables existed. Snap uses the same address. A new shell exports http_proxy for pip, npm, wget, and git. sudo is allowed to keep those variables. The address is rewritten when the gateway changes.

Still open in the documents

The short list is OPEN_ITEMS.md: junk that still slips through the definition path, a made-up “explain” that becomes a tutorial, a tallest-building question with no web fallback, the ticker APPL, and a planned formatter that would retire the model for most answers. Hedge words in sentence scores, and tables inside extract.py, are still logged as open at the bottom of the bug file.

Leave these off the server. Do not upload server/ in place of this folder, keyboard-media/, data/, .aegis-doctor/, .env, pairing codes, the Guardian hash list, or ~/.config/aegis/ (proxy address and saved keyboard emails). This overview folder is the reading copy. The library and the emails stay on the machines.
